Bad Schandau
Oldest Spa Town in an Idyllic Setting
Bad Schandau: The centrally located resort and Kneipp spa town in the national park ranks among the oldest holiday destinations in the Saxon Switzerland. Since 2024, Bad Schandau holds the title of Kneipp health spa, making it the first in Saxony.
Hiking, feeling good, coming back – this is the motto under which Bad Schandau welcomes its guests. Beautifully situated on the Elbe River, Bad Schandau is the most centrally located holiday resort in the Saxon Switzerland. The small town, with its typically medieval town center, invites visitors to enjoy a leisurely stroll among its cafés, restaurants, and shops. As the oldest spa resort in the Saxon Switzerland, it boasts a long-standing tradition. With classic spa facilities, complemented by modern beauty and wellness offerings, visitors will find everything they need for body and soul.
For instance, Postelwitz, with its charming houses, some in the traditional regional style, closely adjoins the town center along the Elbe. Schmilka, a picturesque small mountain and shipping village with its two unique bridge houses, is also located directly on the sunny right bank of the Elbe and on the paths leading to the Saxon Switzerland and Bohemian Switzerland National Parks. Porschdorf, with its districts Prossen and Waltersdorf, was incorporated into the town of Bad Schandau in 2012 and spans with a height difference of up to 130 meters from the Elbe and Lachsbach valleys to the plateaus surrounding the striking Lilienstein.
