The most beautiful Christmas markets 

It is considered one of the most beautiful not only in Saxony, but also in Germany: the Christmas market at Königstein Fortress. The elaborately staged spectacle high above the Elbe attracts visitors with traditional goods, old craftsmanship, handmade music, puppet theater, and real animals in the Christmas crib. Part of the market takes place in underground sandstone vaults.

The stately Saxon Weesenstein Castle in the Müglitz Valley - once the residence of proud noble families and the secret residence of the Saxon royal house - provides the picturesque backdrop for the Weesenstein Castle Christmas. Traditionally, Weesenstein Castle invites visitors to a romantic market bustle on the 1st Advent. All kinds of Christmas items - small treasures and delicacies - are offered by craftsmen and merchants of the region as well as the restaurants of Weesenstein. The offer ranges from Christmas floristry, jewelry, and fabrics to home-baked Christmas stollen and delicious mulled wine. Whether classic bratwurst or roasted almonds, no wishes remain unfulfilled here. Would you like to fill a St. Nicholas boot or two? You are sure to find what you are looking for here!

On the first Sunday of Advent, the Hohnstein Christmas Market opens its doors at 11 am. Along Rathausstraße, Rathausplatz, Marktplatz, and at Hohnstein Castle, numerous stalls invite you to a Christmas stroll. The local clubs and restaurateurs provide food and drink. Domestic culture is presented on the three stages. It is arguably the most romantic Christmas market in Saxon Switzerland: picturesque alleys, great lighting, and a venerable castle towering over the small town. You are missing out on the first Sunday of Advent if you do not make your way to Hohnstein. The market is open until 6 pm on the first Sunday of Advent. Admission is free.

The Sebnitz Tannert Christmas is dedicated to one of the most important silhouette artists of the 19th century and a globally unique folk art. Adolf Tannert lived and worked in Sebnitz. His cuts have always served as pictorial decoration for the Sebnitz shadow plays, which can be purchased at the market. Similar to a Christmas pyramid, figures made of silhouettes rotate in round, handmade towers made of wood and paper and show moving, illuminated picture scenes. The Advent market is decorated with such an oversized shadow play.
