Can you go climbing, paddling, or cycling in the spring?
Climbing: Once the rocks are dry, the climbing season begins, particularly on many sun-exposed rocks. Some rocks are temporarily closed until June due to the breeding season of protected birds. For current information on closures, check with the Saxon Mountaineering Association or the Saxon Switzerland National Park.
Paddling: The Elbe is perfect for paddling tours in spring. The water level is often ideal, and the landscape appears fresh and colorful. Due to the water temperatures, appropriate clothing and basic knowledge of dealing with currents and wind are recommended. A particularly exciting option is the combination of hiking and paddling. This offer can be booked every Saturday starting in May.
Cycling: The bike paths in the region, especially the Elbe Cycle Route, are easily rideable in spring. The gravel bike route "RockHead," opened in 2024 from the Upper Lusatia to the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, is surely one of the best recommendations to bring the bicycle out of winter dormancy.
