Saxon Switzerland National Park Centre

Short facts

Visitor center with interactive exhibition on the nature and landscape of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains - centrally located in Bad Schandau.

The exhibition shows how the Elbe Sandstone Mountains were formed, which animals and plants live here and how humans have interacted with the landscape over the centuries.

Seven themed areas guide visitors through the most important aspects of the national park - from the striking rock formations to the tranquil forests. Interactive stations, models, short films and audio clips make the content clear and accessible - also for children and school classes.

One focus is on the forest. The so-called "ant world" provides a lively insight into the complex coexistence of a seemingly small habitat. In the outdoor area, there is a playground, a school garden, a green classroom and a relaxation area. A clay oven is also put into operation during events.

The house is barrier-free and is suitable for anyone who wants to find out more about nature, landscape and conservation ideas before or during their stay in Saxon Switzerland.

Approximate duration of visit: approx. 1.5 hours.

The telephone route service regarding closures in the national park can be reached on 035022 50240.
