Small mountain garden with plants from Saxon Switzerland and cool, damp regions worldwide, idyllically situated on a steep slope in Bad Schandau.
The botanical garden was established in 1902 and is one of the oldest of its kind in the region. It is located on the steep slope of the Ostrauer Berg in the Kirnitzschtal valley and uses the natural hillside location for a variety of site conditions.
Over an area of around 6,100 m², the garden displays characteristic plants of Saxon Switzerland. These include typical rock and forest communities as well as vegetation in damp, shady locations.
The collection is supplemented by species from comparable mountain regions in Europe, Asia and North America. The selection of plants gives a comprehensive impression of the flora of cool, humid climate zones.
Botanical tours are offered on Thursdays between mid-May and September. Ecological relationships and special plant species are clearly explained.
