Railway experience days

April 18 & 19, 2026

When historical trains, lovingly designed model railways, and creative hands-on activities combine to create a special adventure weekend, it is time once again for the Railway Adventure Days in Saxon Switzerland. For the 16th time, numerous railway locations in Saxon Switzerland will open their doors for two days.

The Railway Adventure Days are an offer for the whole family. Not only will children's eyes light up, but technology enthusiasts and model railway fans will also be thrilled.  The spectrum ranges from steam and diesel trains to historical railcars, miniature layouts, garden railways, and a light railway in a quarry.

Six locations – one shared passion
From Sebnitz via Rathen, the Kirnitzschtal, Dorf Wehlen, and Lohsdorf to the Herrenleite near Lohmen, the most diverse facets of the railway world will be on display at all event locations. The program ranges from rides and workshop visits to exhibitions and activities for children.

The Railway Adventure Days offer railway culture you can touch – regional, family-friendly, and with attention to detail. Those who wish can combine visits to several locations into a highly personal journey of discovery through Saxon Switzerland.

Kleine Sächsische Schweiz – Dorf Wehlen
The 7¼-inch miniature mountain railway passes by well-known buildings of the region in a scale of 1:25. New in the park is a model of the Schwarzbach Railway with the locomotive I K.

Schwarzbachbahn e. V. – Lohsdorf Station
Diesel trains run on the museum track between Lohsdorf and Unterehrenberg. On Sunday, a guided hike will also start from Goßdorf-Kohlmühle.

Kirnitzschtalbahn – Bad Schandau
In the workshop, visitors gain insights into everyday operations. Railcar 8 with a trailer car operates in regular scheduled service in the style of the 1980s.

TILLIG Modellbahnen – Sebnitz
The model railway museum is open and a special exhibition "how a model is made" is on display.

Feldbahnmuseum Herrenleite – Lohmen
Light railway vehicles run through the grounds of a former quarry. The program is complemented by a vehicle exhibition, draisine rides, and creative activities.

Eisenbahnwelten – Kurort Rathen
Trains based on international models run on the largest garden railway layout in Germany. New additions include models of Moritzburg Castle and a Swiss cable car.
