An entire village goes organic! Right in the middle of Germany's wild East, directly bordering the Saxon Switzerland National Park, lies Schmilka, a district of Bad Schandau. Small half-timbered houses with rustic guesthouses crowd up the hill toward the historic mill dating back to 1665, where flour is still milled and traditional craftsmanship is cultivated in the neighboring organic bakery and brewery manufactory. Elegant hotels and stylish holiday apartments are situated along the Elbe River. From the opposite bank, the historic ferry "Lena" from 1927 crosses over.

It is not surprising that this place was awarded the title "Most Beautiful Village in Saxony". The Winter Village of Schmilka was also recognized as a "Beacon of the Tourism Industry" for its creative and sustainable concept.

In winter so mystical, rustic, and cozy, in summer so colorful, fresh, and full of life - this gem between village culture and nature simply must be experienced: for a vacation in the midst of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, right on the Malerweg trail, and as an ideal starting point for hiking and climbing in the region. Schmilka on the Elbe – as if fallen out of time…
