Ice House National Park Info Point

Information desk in national park
Historic ice house with interactive exhibition on forest, geology and natural change - located in the middle of the national park, on the Großer Winterberg.

The ice house on the Großer Winterberg is a small outbuilding of the mountain inn. It was originally used as a cold store for blocks of ice that were used in the inn. Today, it serves as a national park information point with exhibitions about the nature of Saxon Switzerland.

On the first floor, an exhibition shows the changing seasons in nature and illustrates the geology of the Winterberg using a relief model. The tourist development of the area and the course of the Malerweg trail are also discussed.

An exhibition on the upper floor informs visitors about the development of the forest over the past millennia. An interactive screen presentation explains the dynamics of natural forest processes. A diorama is dedicated to the topic of bark beetles and clearly shows their role in the ecosystem.
