Holy staircase view

Viewpoint/viewing tower
Easily accessible, historic ascent with around 900 steps - connects the Heringsgrund with the Reitsteig on the Affenstein massif and opens up beautiful views.
The Heilige Stiege is a 190-metre-high climbing route that leads from Heringsgrund up to the Reitsteig on the Affenstein massif. The route consists of around 900 wooden and steel steps and was originally built in the 19th century. In the 1950s, it was extensively renovated with sturdy components.

Despite the difference in altitude, the steps are easy to walk on. It is also suitable for hikers without climbing experience. Sturdy footwear is recommended. Special care and appropriate aids are recommended in snow and icy conditions.

On reaching the top, you can enjoy the open view of the "Heilige Stiege" over the Elbe Valley, the Schrammsteine and the densely wooded surroundings of the Hintere Sächsische Schweiz. Further panoramic views open up along the way, inviting you to take short breaks.
