Winter view near Saupsdorf

The Wachberg is located south of Saupsdorf on the edge of the Saxon Switzerland National Park. At 496 meters high, it is one of the most striking elevations in the transition area to the Lusatian Highlands.

The summit offers unobstructed views in several places. The panorama extends as far as the Zittau Mountains and Bohemian Switzerland.

The subsoil consists of granodiorite, which highlights the geological contrast to the surrounding sandstone landscape. The path to the summit is well developed.

There is a family-friendly mountain hut on the summit. Hikes are possible via the Dr.-Alfred-Meiche-Weg or from the Weifberg. To be safe on the way even in icy conditions, it is advisable to wear snowshoes. These can be hired from the Bad Schandau activity center.
