From Krippen train station we first take the footpath towards Krippen. After about 5 minutes we cross the street and turn onto a small access road, now following the "yellow dot" marker. Shortly after Hönelhof, the steep ascent over steps begins to the Kellerfelsen, a small viewpoint commemorating Friedrich Gottlob Keller (1816-1895). He lived in Krippen and became famous for inventing wood pulp. This was an important step towards the industrial production of paper. Unfortunately, he could not benefit from this during his lifetime and died impoverished.
There follows a short descent and we continue along the narrowing path ("yellow dot" marker) until we reach the road connecting Krippen and Kleinhennersdorf. After crossing the road, we go slightly left and then turn right into the Liethengrund. The path leads towards Liethenmühle, but before reaching it, we take the left fork and now follow the "red dot" marker (Koppelsbergweg) to the Kohlbornstein (372 m). Unfortunately, the red dot is no longer clearly visible in some places. When crossing a large forest road, we have to follow it uphill for a while to find the hiking trail again. The ascent is steep, and there are many steps leading up to the ridge of Kohlbornstein. After a few minutes, you reach the wonderful viewpoint at 372 meters above sea level: the view opens to the valley towards Krippen, the Elbe river, and the village of Postelwitz; beyond that are the villages of Ostrau, Altendorf, and Mittelndorf. In the background rises the Unger. On the right, you can see the Schrammsteine, the Großer Winterberg, and the Rosenberg located in Bohemia. Reinhardtsdorf and Schöna with Zirkelstein and Kaiserkrone follow. Looking to the left, you see Papststein with the Hunskirchen, Kleinhennersdorfer Stein, and Lilienstein.
The descent is via the same path. Once at the bottom, turn left and walk along the Lasenweg below the Lasensteine ("red dot" marker). At a sharp angle, the path turns left and after some time on the road, the Krippenhangweg leads down to the right (no marker, with signpost) back to Krippen. Shortly before Krippen, the "yellow dot" marker and the Malerweg are encountered again. Upon arriving in Krippen, follow the street briefly to the right, and on the opposite side begins the ascent again (Malerweg, "yellow dot" marker) until you cross the Caspar-David-Friedrich-Weg ("green dot" marker). Now we hike left on the CDF path and pass a board dedicated to a famous painting by Caspar David Friedrich.
Caspar David Friedrich is considered one of the most important painters of early Romanticism. In 1813, he lived for several months with a friend’s family in Krippen. He fled Dresden to escape the military conflicts of the liberation wars against Napoleon. In and around Krippen, he produced numerous sketches and drawings. Some can be discovered in his famous paintings. On our hike, we pass the place where the sketches for the painting "Two Men Contemplating the Moon" were made. There is an explanatory board there.
After a steep descent, we reach the village of Krippen. We follow the Bächelweg, where many different sundials can be discovered on houses or in properties. After the "Erbgericht" hotel, we pass under the railway line to reach the Elbe Cycle Route. The last few meters we walk downstream along the Elbe Cycle Route with a view of the Lilienstein. To get back to the starting point of our hike, we must go under the next railway underpass again and arrive at the footpath at the end of our hike.
