near Maxen in the Müglitz Valley

Under the direction of the AG Kalkofen, the lime kiln built in 1856 at the former electoral marble quarry was renovated from 2004-2007.
The exhibition in the lime kiln presents the 600-year history of lime mining in Maxen, how the Rumford kiln works and the geology around Maxen. Surprising insights are provided by the use of Maxen marble in the Green Vault in Dresden. Special exhibitions show the beauty of local minerals and rocks. The viewing platform on the lime kiln offers a magnificent panoramic view from the Wilisch over Kreischa, Possendorf, the Babisnau poplar tree to the Dresden television tower at all times of the year.
