Table mountain Großer Zschirnstein
The Großer Zschirnstein is a striking table mountain in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains and has a height of 561 meters. This makes it the highest point in Saxon Switzerland. On a clear day, its elongated plateau offers impressive views as far as the Eastern Ore Mountains and Bohemian Switzerland.
A special feature is the chimney-like basalt breakthrough on the summit, a geological testimony to earlier volcanic activity. This rare phenomenon stands out clearly from the typical sandstone of the mountain range.
The Großer Zschirnstein is located in a largely natural forest area.
