- From the center of Hinterhermsdorf, first follow the signs to the “Buchenparkhalle” restaurant. This hiking tour begins and ends at the parking lot there. The blue “Obere Schleuse” trail marker will lead you directly to the boat tour station at the Kirnitzschklamm.
You’ll start by hiking along the Hohweg until you reach a fork in the trail with two options: Via the “Dachslöcher,” you’ll descend a flight of steps on a direct path into the valley; alternatively, you can continue at a leisurely pace along a road with a gentle downward slope.
The boat ride on the Obere Schleuse through the Kirnitzschklamm gorge is offered from Easter through the end of October. At the lock gate, you’ll exit the gorge to the “Hermannseck” viewpoint—either via steep steps or through a narrow crevice in the rock (marked in red).
You’ll eventually reach Wettinplatz—where a rest area has stood since the 800th anniversary of the Saxon ruling dynasty in 1889—and follow a green-marked trail back to Hinterhermsdorf. As an alternative return route, we recommend a path via Königsplatz, the best viewpoint in the Hinterhermsdorf area, offering a wonderful view over boundless forest wilderness.
