Waldhusche Hinterhermsdorf

Nature discovery trail
Accessibility Family vacation
This information point of the Saxon Switzerland National Park is an open nature and adventure trail with interactive stations.
What exactly is a Waldhusche? Or a timber giant? How does natural regeneration work and why were game fences built in the past? The Waldhusche answers such questions in a vivid way.

The 66-hectare exhibition and adventure site near Hinterhermsdorf offers forest history lessons in the open air. Children and adults can discover stations on historical forestry work, ecological forest development and modern ideas of future forestry.

Four themed trails lead through the grounds and combine technical facilities of old forestry with interactive elements and nature stations. Many hands-on activities invite visitors to actively explore the forest. The site offers varied and educational nature experiences, especially for families with children.

Two information points of the Saxon Switzerland National Park complete the offer: the Beizehaus and the Blockscheune with exhibition elements on the regional forest history. The Waldhusche is freely accessible and is suitable for a half-day excursion to the rear of Saxon Switzerland.

Saxony Barrier-Free
Information on accessibility

The paths not only lead past small and (spatially) large information and play stations that invite you to explore and participate, but also offer the opportunity to visit the two barrier-free information points of the national park administration "Beizehaus" and "Blockscheune" to find out more about forestry in the national park region. Some short steep (!) (partly < 10 %)  sections of the trail, especially around the large centrally located meadow, unfortunately mean that these routes are not marked as wheelchair accessible in the overview map.
With sufficient assistance from helpers, however, the tour shown here on the map can also be experienced by wheelchair users, whereas the marked wheelchair hiking trails always have to be expected to be on stony ground.

There is also a very well-equipped disabled toilet in an outbuilding directly next to the Beizehaus, which is accessible using a EuroKey.
