Directions
The hike starts at the train station in Schöna and initially leads leisurely along the Elbe cycle path towards the Czech border. Once here, a very steep, paved path (beware: it's very slippery in fall and winter) leads to an idyllic reservoir with a small waterfall in the Gelobtbach stream. The trail continues uphill along the stream in a wild and romantic way. The route then continues to the Ziska spring. This is an excellent source of drinking water. Tasting allowed! The path then becomes much easier up to the Zirkelstein. For refreshments, it's worth stopping off at the Zirkelstein inn before continuing on down into the Elbe valley to the Schmilka | Hirschmühle stop.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author
Spotted a fire salamander? Then be sure to take a photo, but don't touch the animals! By doing so, you can take part in the find report campaign of the Saxon State Foundation for Nature and the Environment and make a valuable contribution to species protection and nature research. Safety guidelines
We recommend walking the tour only from the start at the Elbe, as the path to the Gelobbach waterfall is very steep and extremely slippery in fall, winter or rainy days and there are no railings throughout.
