A partly challenging route along the German-Czech border. With some luck, rare fire salamanders can be seen in spring in the Gelobtbach valley. On more comfortable paths, it goes over the Zirkelstein with a break at the Zirkelstein inn and then back to Schmilka via part of the Malerweg.

Schmilka | Hirschmühle
The hike starts at the station in Schöna and initially leads leisurely along the Elbe cycle path towards the Czech border. Upon arrival, a very steep, paved path (Caution: slippery in autumn and winter) leads to an idyllic reservoir with a small waterfall of the Gelobtbach. Wildly romantic, the ascent continues meter by meter along the brook. It then continues to the Ziska spring. This is an excellent source of drinking water. Tasting allowed! The path then becomes significantly easier until the Zirkelstein. To recharge, a stop at the Zirkelstein inn is worthwhile, before comfortably hiking back down into the Elbe valley to the Schmilka | Hirschmühle stop.

We recommend only starting the route from the Elbe, as the path to the Gelobbach waterfall is very steep and extremely slippery in autumn, winter, or rainy days and there are no continuous handrails.

No direct access by car possible. Limited parking spaces are available on the Czech side in Hrensko. Cross over to Schöna station by ferry Schöna | Hrensko.
