At a height of 291 meters, the Hockstein offers spectacular views of the Polenztal valley 115 meters below. The site lies on a geological boundary: granite is found upstream, while sandstone begins downstream.
At the summit, there are the remains of a medieval fortification. An engraved mill can be seen in the rocks. The Devil's Bridge dates back to 1821 and is one of the oldest tourist structures in Saxon Switzerland.
The Wolf's Gorge is particularly impressive. You descend down steep steps between two rock faces into the Polenztal valley.
The rocky spur can be reached via various hiking trails, including the ascent through the Wolfsschlucht gorge or easily from the Hockstein parking lot.
