Table mountain Rauenstein

Short facts

  • Struppen
  • Viewpoint/viewing tower

Table mountain with a long ridge path, striking views and a traditional mining lodge.

The Rauenstein is located on the left bank of the Elbe near Rathen. The up to 600-metre-long rock formation is made of heavily fissured sandstone.

A ridge path leads over the entire massif with steps, ladders and narrow passages. Again and again, there are sweeping views of the Elbe valley, the Bastei and the rocky landscape towards Königstein Fortress.

At the highest point, there is a mountain restaurant that has been open since the end of the 19th century. The historic building blends into the rocky plateau and offers a place to rest with a view.
