Brand view (Hohnstein)

Panoramic view from the rocky plateau called Brand near Hohnstein - clear view of table mountains and wide landscape.

"Balcony of Saxon Switzerland" is the popular name for the Brandaussicht. The rock massif, which probably got its name after a forest fire, drops almost vertically here, creating a natural viewing platform high above the Polenztal valley. The breathtaking 180-degree panoramic view over the front and back of Saxon Switzerland with the imposing Table Mountains on the horizon is truly impressive!

There has been a mountain restaurant here for around 200 years. When Saxon Switzerland came into fashion as a travel destination during the Romantic period, the "Malerweg" was created by wandering artists in search of inspiration. This also led to the Brand, which became one of the most popular viewpoints in the region.

The Brand is ideally located for exploring the national park. Thanks to its proximity to excursion highlights such as the mysterious Gautschgrotte, the romantic Polenztal, the wild Schindergraben or the tranquil Hohnstein with its castle and Max Jacob Theater, a variety of compact hikes are possible from here or with a stopover on the Brand.
