Small bastion with rhododendron park (Rathen)

Viewpoint/viewing tower
Park/garden
The Kleine Bastei in Rathen, a vantage point overlooking the Elbe valley, is a feast for the eyes, especially in late spring with its rhododendron park.
The Small Bastion is located above Niederrathen on the right bank of the Elbe. From here, there is an unobstructed view of the Elbe valley in the direction of the spa town of Rathen. Many different species and varieties grow here, complemented by rare shrubs such as Hinoki cypresses, magnolias and ornamental shrubs.

The park was initiated in the 1920s by Karl Friedrich Keydel and designed by garden architect Baila Helmenreich. Paths and natural stone steps lead through the grounds and still make the park easy to walk through today.

The park is particularly worth seeing during the flowering season in May and June, but offers a beautiful setting for walks with a view all year round.
