Relaxed round trip up the smallest table mountain of Saxon Switzerland. Caspar David Friedrich was already on the move here. His "Wanderer above the Sea of Fog" is probably the best-known painting of German Romanticism. It shows a well-to-do wanderer in a frock coat and with a walking stick standing on a rock, contemplating a landscape of partly bizarrely shaped mountain peaks rising from swirling morning mist. The landscape depicted in the picture is Saxon Switzerland. For Friedrich, who spent most of his life in Dresden, the nearby rock world was a place of longing, inspiration, and refuge in a world gone astray.
