Directions
From the paid P3 Eiche Hohnstein parking lot, you go up a 200m long road to the parking lot at the old station. From there, you first hike towards the Brand viewpoint until a path branches off sharply to the right after a senior home. Follow the path marked with a red stripe for a few meters to a crossroads and turn right there. At the next crossroads after about 50m, keep left and you are now on the Steinbruchweg. On a finely gravelled surface, you calmly go through open forest until a descent to the former quarry begins on the right. In the quarry, you can take a detour of about 50 meters to a layer fissure cave that is quite worth seeing. Then continue on the Halbenweg with a green stripe marking. After about 1km of hiking, go down about 150m. Several larger rock obstacles, some as high as the knee, have to be overcome. Shortly thereafter, at the climbing summits Großer and Kleiner Halben, there is an opportunity to rest. A visit to the Gautschgrotte is also recommended here. A little later, during the hike, you can already see the walls of the former bear garden and above it the Hohnstein castle. Afterwards, you reach Hohnstein again via a steeper section and finally over cobblestones, returning to the starting point.
