This hike is especially suitable in sunny weather and can also be managed with a sled when there is enough snow.
From the P+R parking lot, you follow a well-developed asphalt path to Rathewalde. In Rathewalde, at the church, you initially won’t find the right signpost for the correct direction. But just 20m after turning right, a small street goes up diagonally. Here you can also see the path that leads down into the Amselgrund valley. On the Basteiweg (yellow mark), head south through a small valley and continue on the "Rathewalder Fußweg." The path invites chatting as there are no tricky sections. After about 500m, you reach the road that leads to the Bastei. Parallel to this, you walk on a good forest path towards the "Schwedenlöcher." As soon as you reach the Bastei parking lot, the number of people on the hiking trail increases, as it is only a few meters to the world-famous Bastei Bridge. Here you can buy souvenirs, grab a snack, or dine in the panorama restaurant. The numerous viewpoints at this location continually amaze visitors.
On the way back, turn left at the souvenir stalls onto the Malerweg. This detour to the Stone Table is immediately quieter. The forest inn at the "Steinerner Tisch" is currently still under renovation. It is hoped that it will be open for visitors next winter. After the small "detour" to the Stone Table, return to the Basteistraße. You stay on this road back to the parking lot. Once out of the forest, you can see the Schrammsteine and the Napoleonschanze (near Hohnstein) on the horizon to the east.
This hike is a blue route (easy route, mostly flat, often cleared, almost always passable).
Hiking poles and crampons that strap under your shoes can improve your personal terrain capability. This equipment can be purchased at the Tourist Service in Bad Schandau.
