Ridge hike on the Schrammsteine

The hike begins in Schmilka at the ferry landing or at the bus stop right next to it. We cross the street and pass through the quaint village uphill. The root path continues uphill to a small junction on the left (Roßsteigel), which brings us to the Elbleitenweg.

Here we turn left (green dot markings) and hike to the next junction marked with signposts. At this point, we climb the Breite Kluft to the right (green line) until we reach the top of the Schrammstein path. There we turn left (blue line markings and Malerweg) and shortly after reach the Breite Kluft viewpoint, which rewards us well for the ascent. Then we continue along the ridge path (shortly without markings after the Jägersteig junction, then green line). The ridge path finally leads us up stairs to the spectacular Schrammsteine viewpoint - jagged rocks, table mountains, and wide landscapes as far as the eye can see!

From here we initially hike back the same way, passing the first descent to the right (Wildschützensteig) and descent to the left (Mittelwinkel), until the second path branching off to the right (Jägersteig, blue line). Steps lead us down between the rocks. Once at the bottom – we are now on the Vorderer Promenade – we go right and soon arrive at the Großes Schrammtor. At the crossroads with the National Park information board, we take the path going straight ahead (yellow and blue line).

At the next fork, we go straight again and follow the Obrigensteig into the valley (yellow line). This leads steeply down via numerous stairs into the Zahnsgrund. We cross the road, turn right onto the footpath, and follow it for a few minutes down to Postelwitz, where our hike ends at the bus stop.

The Schrammsteine viewpoint is one of the most popular viewing points in Saxon Switzerland and can be very crowded, especially on weekends and public holidays. 

The tour is suitable for children, but due to the nature of the ridge path with ladders, stairs, and narrow rock passages, it is not suitable for dogs (dogs should alternatively stay on the Elbleitenweg and walk along the foot of the Schrammsteine). Surefootedness and a head for heights are required. Special caution is advised in case of ice and wet conditions!

Please note: The tour runs almost entirely within the Saxon Switzerland National Park. Paths must not be left here and dogs must always be kept on a leash. Fines may be imposed for violations.
