Directions
- The tour starts at the Brtniky (Zeidler) stop and from there initially follows the red line into the village, where you keep to the left for a short distance on the main street and then immediately turn right again, continuing along the red line up the hill to the Way of the Cross and the Kaple největší trojice (Chapel of the Holy Trinity).
From the Kaple největší trojice, continue following the red trail to a junction, where a signpost with a yellow line points the way to Vlci Hora (Wolfsberg).
After enjoying the breathtaking view from Vlci Hora, continue along the green trail for a short distance downhill and then turn left off the marked trail toward Verunčina studánka (Veronika Spring).
From Verunčina studánka, follow a red semicircle for a short distance to a signpost with a yellow line. The yellow line leads to a short detour to Rudolf Kögler’s Geologiká Zahrada (Geological Garden) in Zahrady. Along the way, you’ll need to pay close attention to keep finding the markings, and likewise when hiking back to Vlci Hora.
From Vlci Hora, continue a short distance through the village following the green line until you then follow the blue line onward toward Pod Kocici Skalou.
Once you reach an information board on the topic of “sliding mirrors,” follow the green trail again all the way to Kyjovsky Hradek (Kyjovsky Rock Castle or Upper Karlstein—also known as the Khaa Rock Trail), where you can make a short detour to the left in Kyjov (Khaa), you can take a short detour to the left to stop for refreshments.
From the rest stop in Kyjov, follow the green trail for a short distance into the Kyjovské údolí (Khaa Valley) before an unmarked signpost directs you left toward Kinskeho Vyhlidka (Prince Kinsky Lookout) via steep steps through a rocky gorge.
Once at the top, follow the green trail—initially downhill again—along the Khaa Rock Trail. Along the way, you’ll also cross a small valley and eventually reach a valley where you can only go left or right.
If you turn left, you’ll reach the Klenotnice (Treasury), which is well worth a visit; you can follow the red trail there, which marks a dead end.
From the Treasure Chamber, hike back a short distance to the Kyjovské údolí, where you can take another short detour to the right down to the Vinny Sklep (wine cellar).
From the Vinny Sklep, continue following the red line through the Kyjovské údolí to the Turisticky Most (Tourist Bridge), where you can take a short detour to the Jeskyne víl (Fairy Grotto) via a mountain trail secured with chains.
From the Turisticky Most, first follow the green line toward Brtniky through a beautiful valley until a signpost with a blue triangle points the way to Brtnicky Hradek (Zeidlerburg).
After an adventurous visit to Brtniky Hradek, continue following the blue triangle to Velký Pruský Tabor (Prussian Camp)—a hidden joint cave located behind a narrow crevice in the rock.
From there, follow the green line back to Brtniky, where you can visit the Sovi jeskyne (Owl Cave) and another small lookout point along the way, before walking the final few meters in Brtniky along the red line back to the train station.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author
- Sturdy shoes and plenty of food are highly recommended, as some of the trails are unpaved and there are virtually no places to stop for a bite to eat—the restaurant in Kyjov (Khaa) is open only on weekends and when the weather is good.
Safety guidelines
- The hike is rated as moderately difficult, though due to the route’s profile, it’s only suitable for experienced hikers, as there are many short but steep uphill and downhill sections. In addition, sure-footedness is essential for the detours to the rock castles!
