Wolfsberg observation tower (Vlcí hora, Czech Republic)

Short facts

  • Krásná Lípa
  • Viewpoint/viewing tower

Historic observation tower with distant views over the Lusatian Mountains and Bohemian Switzerland.

In Bohemian Switzerland in the Czech Republic lies the 581-metre-high Vlčí hora, the summit of which is crowned by a lookout tower dating back to 1889. The tower was built from brickwork and is one of the historic viewpoints of the Schluckenau peak.

The ascent is via an internal staircase and 64 steps that lead to the glazed platform. From there, there is a wide view over the Lusatian Mountains, the Bohemian Highlands and, on a clear day, as far as the distant mountain ranges to the north and east.

The tower was extensively renovated in the 1990s and repaired again in 2023 following a fire in the neighboring chalet. The mountain is easily accessible via marked hiking trails, with the Veronikabrunnen fountain at the eastern foot as an additional excursion destination.

The viewing platform with battlements was covered in 1909, increasing the height of the tower to its current 19 m.
