Rosenthal-Bielatal
Climbing Paradise in the Forest
Idyllic holiday resort in the midst of a hiking and climbing paradise, surrounded by extensive forests and bizarre rock formations.
In the middle of a vast forested area that extends into the Czech Republic lie the villages of Bielatal and Rosenthal. The upper Bielatal, in particular, is characterized by its very own unique character, which is most evident between the Schweizer- and Ottomühle. Here, in the heart of the forest, the hiker's eye is presented with a multitude of rock towers in the most fantastic weathering forms.
The Sachsenstein, the Herkulessäulen, the Johanniswacht, and the Kanzelturm are also unique natural monuments that convey only a hint of the once-raging forces of nature. Three larger caves also bear witness to this: the Bennohöhle, the Eisloch, and the 19-meter-deep Schwedenloch with its ice pit behind the Ottomühle.
In the Brausenstein district, a blast furnace ruin of the former hammer mill is also preserved as a monument to a venerable workplace of the past. In Bielatal, a tour through the rugged rock labyrinth is particularly appealing to younger visitors.
Well-signposted cycle paths lead to the Elbe Cycle Route and the tourist border crossing, via which hiking destinations in the Czech Republic, such as the Hoher Schneeberg (a 723-meter-high table mountain), can be reached.
