Blast furnace (Rosenthal-Bielatal)

Short facts

The blast furnace is a historical monument to the smelting of iron at that time.

The Brausenstein blast furnace is located in the Bielatal valley and was part of a former smelting plant for processing ore. It was built in 1693 as part of the iron production around Pirna.

The blast furnace was used to smelt the so-called Pirna iron and was part of a complete processing chain with a hammer mill and foundry. Its location in the wooded valley ensured its proximity to wood and water.

After its closure, the plant fell into disrepair, but was later restored. Today, the blast furnace is open to the public and is supplemented by information boards that clearly explain how it was built and how it worked.

The site is a testimony to early industrial culture and can be easily integrated into a hike through the Bielatal valley.
