Wooded table mountain near Königstein in the Pfaffendorf district with geological features, a cave and views of the fortress and the Pfaffenstein.
The Quirl is located around two kilometers south of Königstein in the area of the Left Elbe Table Mountains. At 349 meters above sea level, it is one of the flatter but equally striking elevations in the Saxon Switzerland National Park.
Fields were cultivated on the summit plateau until around 1800. Due to its proximity to Königstein Fortress, the area was closed for a long time. In 1866, the main access at the time was made impassable for military reasons.
The large layered joint cave called Diebskeller on the north side is remarkable because it is one of the largest caves of its kind in the region.
Hiking trails lead from Königstein and Pfaffendorf around the Quirl. The summit is accessible via paths
