Schrammstein view

Short facts

  • Bad Schandau
  • Viewpoint/viewing tower,…

One of the most famous views in Saxon Switzerland National Park

The Schrammsteine present themselves as an elongated, unspoilt, heavily jagged group of rocks to the east of Bad Schandau. They are bordered to the north by the Kirnitzschtal valley, to the south by the Elbe valley and to the east by the two Winterberge mountains. They are divided into the Vordere Schrammsteine (from the Falkenstein to the Breite Kluft) and the Hintere Schrammsteine (from the Affensteinen to the Winterberge). Three mighty vertical incisions form the Schrammtore, which in their variety of shapes are a special testimony to millions of years of weathering.

(Winter) hiking tips: Ridge hike on the Schrammsteine or circular hike from Bad Schandau to the Schrammsteinaussicht and back via the Breite Kluft to Bad Schandau

The Schrammsteinaussicht as a photo spot:
The view from the Schrammsteinaussicht at sunset is definitely one of the region's classics. If you are hoping for a colourful sky with a sun star, you should come at sunset.
Best time: Sunset
Subject: Schrammsteinaussicht and ridge path (there are many motifs between Jägersteig and Wildschützensteig towards Schmilka)
Starting point: easily accessible from Kirnitzschtal or Ostrau, approx. 60-minute climb
