Museum Historic Lime Kiln
The museum complex in the Borna district of Bahretal documents the long history of lime extraction in the region. At its center is a listed lime kiln that is more than 200 years old. An exhibition shows the development of industrial lime production from the traditional kiln to the modern factory that was in operation here until 2000.
A highlight is the small light railroad that runs on a 300-metre circuit. The adjoining lime kiln circular trail runs for six kilometers past old quarries, historic firing sites and information stations. The area is complemented by a fire department museum, which illustrates the history of the local fire brigade since 1878.
