Traveling by train:
Local S-Bahn station: Schmilka-Hirschmühle. Regular express train service from Germany and even from Austria all the way to Bad Schandau (e.g., direct service from Berlin to Bad Schandau). From Bad Schandau, take the S-Bahn two stops to Schmilka, then cross over on the old “Lena,” the historic ferry from 1927, and you’re there!
Traveling by boat:
Local boat landing with scheduled service: Regular ferry connections between the town and the train station (limited at night), and a long-distance ferry from Bad Schandau.
Traveling by bike:
The Elbe Cycle Path is open on both sides of the Elbe. On the right bank of the Elbe, you can ride from Bad Schandau via Rathmannsdorf and Prossen to Königstein-Halbestadt; from there, you’ll need to take the ferry, as there is no continuous route on this side of the Elbe all the way to Kurort Rathen.
You can also use the Bad Schandau Bahnhof-Elbkai ferry to cross to the other side of the Elbe.
The ferries in Königstein, Bad Schandau, and Krippen are currently free of charge.
Arriving on Foot:
Schmilka is located right on the popular Malerweg hiking trail, which leads directly through the Schmilk’sche Mühle!
Getting Here by Car:
By car, you can reach our hotel via the A17 highway, taking the “Pirna/Bad Schandau” exit. Then drive through Pirna, Copitz, Lohmen, and Rathewalde to Bad Schandau. From there, continue along the Elbe River to Schmilka.
