The D4 cycling path is also known as Central States Route and belongs to Germany’s long-distance cycling route network. The network criss-crosses the whole country linking the town of Aachen to the town of Zittau, and includes the Elbe Cycling Path and the routes along the Spree and Oder/Neiße Rivers.

An exciting combination

The D4 cyling path provides an exciting combination of prestigious palaces, castles and authentic ”umgebinde” houses built in a unique traditional construction style. Neatly groomed front gardens alternate with lush meadows, shady woods and cool lakes. Discover old handicraft and precious museum treasures.

Challenging and diverse

The 130 km long route section from the city of Dresden via Saxon Switzerland to the town of Zittau is completely waymarked in both directions. The routing is relatively challenging and requires a moderate fitness level. It runs mostly on asphalt roads, through narrow small village lanes or on less frequented streets and roads. There are only a few short sections along dirt roads.
