Directions

The cycling route starts at Goßdorf-Kohlmühle station. Entry points are also possible at the S-Bahn stations in Stadt Wehlen, Kurort Rathen and Bad Schandau as well as at the National Park Train stations in Rathmannsdorf or Porschdorf.

Right at the beginning, a challenging climb awaits to get uphill to Goßdorf. Once there, a view over the surroundings compensates. Then it continues towards Hohnstein, on the left you can see the Waitzdorfer Höhe. Past the Entenfarm campsite, we follow Schandauer Straße past the Hohnstein outdoor pool to the town centre. A detour to Hohnstein Castle promises a well-deserved break to recharge and great views over the Hohnstein valley landscape. The serpentine road leads down into the Polenz valley, where we turn off. It continues steadily slightly uphill until shortly before Heeselicht, where we take a detour to Hohburkersdorf. The elevation gained is forgotten as soon as you see the great views towards Lilienstein and the rock landscape. It then continues via Rathewalde to Lohmen. Those who want can plan a detour to the Bastei here (about 5 km extra).

Shortly before Lohmen, we turn off towards Dorf Wehlen. Passing the Kleine Sächsische Schweiz, we roll downhill to Stadt Wehlen. From here, we follow the Elbe cycling path to Kurort Rathen, where we collect more elevation on the way to Waltersdorf and Porschdorf. A little further along the Sebnitz river and we are back at Goßdorf-Kohlmühle with its linoleum factory.

Visit to Hohnstein Castle:

Hohnstein Castle towers on a rocky spur above the Polenz valley in the town of the same name. The castle museum provides all the important information about the history of the castle back to the Middle Ages. There is daily refreshment on the castle terrace for cycling breaks.
