This beautiful hiking route runs through nice forests from Čertova Voda (Tschirte) to Decin (Tetschen) to the zoo. Along the way, you pass interesting places and views.

The route leads from Čertova Voda (Tschirte) on the Elbe past some interesting springs to Maxicky (Maxdorf) and from there directly to Decin (Tetschen) to the zoo, which is located outside the town on a hill. From various points, you can look over Decin into the wide hinterland.

Directions

The route starts at the stop "Decin-Certova Voda" and initially follows the yellow and then the green trail uphill to Maxicky (Maxdorf).

From Maxicky, you then follow the yellow trail to Decin. In the settlement "Cerveny Vrich" (Rothberg), you leave the yellow trail and initially continue a bit along the street of the same name. Then turn left into the next street and walk downhill. At the end of the street, turn right again and follow the street named "Belska" uphill a bit before turning left into the forest and heading towards the zoo.

After a short ascent via switchbacks, follow the red trail to the left to Pastyrska Stena (Shepherd's Wall), where a restaurant of the same name sits atop a small castle.

From Pastyrska Stena, a path runs behind the castle to the zoo in Decin, which is definitely worth a visit.

From the zoo in Decin, you then go down the "Zizkova" street into the town, passing a Jewish cherry tree and almost directly to Decin station, where the route ends.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author

Along the route, you will come across interesting views where bringing binoculars is highly recommended. Additionally, the town of Decin is worth further exploration beyond the route – especially the castle.

Sturdy footwear and sufficient provisions are recommended, as some paths are unpaved, and it is better to have some food and drink with you.

There are places to stop in Maxicky (a bit past the junction in the town where you switch from the green to the yellow trail), on Pastyrska Stena (Shepherd's Wall), and at the zoo in Decin.
