The new forest educational trail in Tannenbusch in Bad Gottleuba tells the story of the disappearance and emergence of a forest.
The hike leads from the historic market in Bad Gottleuba up into the Tannenbusch. The Tannenbusch got its name from the spruces that once grew there. Locally, these were referred to as firs. After the devastating storms "Herwert" and "Frederike" in 2017 and 2018, extensive damage occurred here. The dryness in the following years served as an entry point for the bark beetle. Due to the lack of water and hence the absence of resin in the pure spruce stands, the bark beetle was able to multiply explosively. The result was the complete death of the spruces in the Tannenbusch. The state enterprise Sachsenforst, in cooperation with the town of Bad Gottleuba-Berggießhübel, has developed a plan to reforest the clearings created with various tree species. The new signs show how the clearings caused by the bark beetle are being revived with new tree species, thus bringing a new forest to life. From the ridge path, you can enjoy magnificent views into the Gottleuba valley.
