Directions
Right at the start, there is a steep climb to get to Goßdorf. Once there, a view of the surrounding area makes up for it. The route then continues in the direction of Hohnstein, with the Waitzdorfer Höhe on the left. Pass the Entenfarm campsite and follow Schandauer Straße past the Hohnstein outdoor pool to the town center. A detour to Hohnstein Castle promises a well-deserved break to refuel and great views over the Hohnstein valley landscape. The serpentines take us downhill towards Polenztal, into which we turn. The route continues steadily uphill until we make a turn towards Hohburkersdorf shortly before Heeselicht. The elevation gain is forgotten as soon as you see the fantastic views of the Lilienstein and the rocky landscape. The route continues via Rathewalde to Lohmen. If you wish, you can plan a detour to the Bastei (approx. 5 km extra).
Shortly before Lohmen, we turn off towards Dorf Wehlen. We cycle downhill past Little Saxon Switzerland to Stadt Wehlen. Here we follow the Elbe cycle path to the spa town of Rathen, where we gain metres in altitude again on the way to Waltersdorf and Porschdorf. Another stretch along the Sebnitz and we are back in Goßdorf-Kohlmühle with its linoleum factory.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author
Hohnstein Castle is enthroned on a rocky spur above the Polenztal valley in the town of the same name. The castle museum has everything you need to know about the history of the castle dating back to the Middle Ages. The castle terrace offers refreshments every day for cycling breaks.
