The Elbe Sandstone Mountains are steeped in a long and fascinating cultural history. European history was made here in the midst of idyllic nature and along important trade routes. And it is present to this day in the local castles, gardens and forts. Later, the paintings, poems and compositions of the Romantic artists made the area world-famous.
