Pirna
The Gateway to Saxon Switzerland
Embedded in the picturesque landscape of the Elbe valley, between Dresden and the Elbe Sandstone Mountains, lies Pirna. The romantic city with its historic center is considered the gateway to Saxon Switzerland.
Largely spared from war damage and city fires, there are still squares in the historic old town whose silhouettes have been preserved for centuries, such as the market square. The paintings of the Venetian Bernardo Bellotto, known as Canaletto, made Pirna world-famous. And even today, a discovery tour through the medieval city center with its winding alleys, proud townhouses, charming courtyards, and numerous fountains is worthwhile.
The city of Pirna offers a diverse range of cultural and leisure activities with events in the Herderhalle, the Q24, the Pirna museums, and the Zuschendorf country estate with its famous camellia collection. In addition, sports and leisure facilities, such as the Geibeltbad, attract visitors to the city.
From Pirna, the Elbe Cycle Route, the Saxon Wine Route, and the Saxon Wine Hiking Trail are perfectly suited for excursions.
