Dohna
Historical in a dreamlike setting
Between Dresden, Saxon Switzerland, and the Ore Mountains, Dohna captivates as the second oldest city in the upper Elbe region with its historic old town and picturesque surroundings.
Dohna, along with its districts Borthen, Bosewitz, Burgstädtel, Gamig, Gorknitz, Köttewitz, Krebs, Meusegast, Röhrsdorf, Sürßen, and Tronitz, is the second oldest city in the upper Elbe region. Dohna Castle was presumably built in 960 by Emperor Otto I. Its first recorded mention dates back to the year 1040. In the years 1897, 1927, 1957, and 2002, severe floods ravaged the town, with the Müglitz causing significant damage. The citizens have invested much effort and dedication, subsequently restoring the town to even greater beauty than before. With its historical old town, Dohna offers excellent living conditions and many opportunities to enjoy a holiday between the state capital Dresden, Saxon Switzerland, and the Ore Mountains.
Relaxation is offered, for example, by hikes in the local nature reserve "Spargründe," to Weesenstein Castle (10 km), in Saxon Switzerland (20 km), as well as excursions to the cultural city of Dresden (10 km), the Baroque Garden Heidenau-Großsedlitz (5 km), or the Ore Mountains (30 km). Small guesthouses and individual restaurants ensure a pleasant stay in Dohna.
