Experience Red Deer Rutting Season in Saxon Switzerland—Insights into the REDEMA Research Project

Guided tour/sightseeing
The Saxon and Bohemian Switzerland National Park Authorities invite you to an event as part of the German-Czech REDEMA* project

The Wildlife of the Year—the red deer—is the focus of this evening excursion during the rutting season of these majestic animals.

As the bellowing echoes through the forests, the male red stags compete impressively with one another for the favor of the does. Armed with plenty of fascinating background information, we’ll set out at dusk in the area around Hinterhermsdorf in search of the King of the Forest.

During the hike, you’ll learn why this title isn’t quite accurate, what the story behind Bambi is, how to spot a young stag, and much more.

Our experts will report on the findings of the REDEMA research project, which has been studying the behavior and impact of red deer in the national park since 2023. Our wildlife biologists will provide insights into modern methods of wildlife research.
