Altendorf is located on the edge of the Saxon Switzerland National Park between Bad Schandau and Sebnitz. The village is a good starting point for hikes into the Elbe Sandstone Mountains and the Kirnitzsch Valley. Numerous paths lead directly from the village into the surrounding rocky area, including the Malerweg trail.

The Altendorf tourist information office offers a wide range of information material on Saxon Switzerland as well as souvenirs, hiking maps, postcards and stamps. It can also arrange accommodation and make reservations.
