Cotta Spitzberg view

Short facts

  • Dohma
  • Viewpoint/viewing tower

A basalt hilltop with sweeping panoramic views, visible rock formations and a historic surveying column.

The Cottaer Spitzberg rises 391 meters above the village of Cotta near Dohma. Its basalt peak is the result of volcanic activity that once pushed the rock through the sandstone. The mountain is protected due to its special geology and flora.

Basalt columns are visible on the largely open summit, reminding us of its former use as a quarry. A historical surveying column from 1865 is still one of the special features of the site.

A wide panoramic view opens up from the top. Pirna and the Lusatian Highlands can be seen to the north, while to the south and west the views extend over hills and table mountains as far as the Eastern Ore Mountains.
