Deeply incised ravines cut through the sandstone of the Front Saxon Switzerland. They have an almost mystical atmosphere and a cool cellar climate. It is a world of its own, into which we are allowed to immerse ourselves on this hike; in seclusion and somewhat detached from reality.

Directions

From the Kohlberg parking lot (road between Lohmen and Dorf Wehlen) or from the nearby bus stop in Uttewalde, after a few meters on the road turn into Buschholzstraße, an unmarked field path leading into the forest. Turn left from Buschholzstraße onto an unmarked path and then follow the signs "Teufelskammer circular route".

The moist green rock walls of the Teufelsgrund get closer and closer to the path. Suddenly you stand at the narrowest, darkest spot in the middle of the Teufelskammer. On the sides, we see fairy-like sculptures of lichens and ferns, shadow plays, dripping water and mosses absorbing moisture like sponges. For the particularly adventurous, there is a small extra loop: from Teufelsgrund follow the signs "Teufelsschlüchte circular route" to the right and then keep right again so that you descend back into the Teufelsgrund with the "Teufelskammer circular route".

After the Teufelsgrund, our hike turns left into the Wehlener Grund (red dot) and continues (green line) into the Uttewalder Grund until we reach the Gasthaus Waldidylle. We follow the path marked with the green dot until we reach Uttewalde and turn left there to return to the starting point of the hike via Alte Uttewalder Straße.

Directions & Parking facilities

From Lohmen: follow the signs to Uttewalde or Wehlen. Pass the turnoff to Uttewalde and then park on the left side opposite the next plantation.

Via Dorf Wehlen: In Dorf Wehlen turn towards Lohmen (left, past the church), follow the road across the field and park at the parking area on the right (opposite a large plantation).

From Pirna station take Bus 238 towards Stadt Wehlen to the Uttewalde stop (Monday to Friday), on weekends take the S-Bahn S1 to Stadt Wehlen, cross with the ferry and walk via the Malerweg (orange marking) to the Uttewalder Grund, where you can start the hike.
