The Fortress Cycle Path leads from the Elbe Cycle Path up a short but challenging ramp to Königstein Fortress, one of the largest mountain fortresses in Europe. While your legs work on the climb, the anticipation of the mighty walls of the fortress increases with every metre of altitude. Once at the top, athletic performance and a gigantic view over the Elbe Sandstone Mountains merge into an unforgettable experience.

Directions

From the Elbe cycle path, we first follow the path under the railroad line to the traffic circle at Reißiger Platz. There we turn off in the direction of Bielatal and follow the road for a while. At Eselsweg, we turn right. Here the route climbs steeply, partly on paved ground, so that you work up a good sweat. The route continues uphill on forest paths. At a small rest area with an insect hotel, we have our first great view of Königstein Fortress. Shortly before the main road, we cross a gate of the forestry administration (please close it again so that no animals can get onto the B172!) Turn right onto the road up to Königstein Fortress.

There are bicycle stands on the fortress forecourt. We can leave our luggage in the luggage lockers at the ticket office.

Alternatively, bikes can be safely parked in the bicycle garage at Reißiger Platz in Königstein so that you can climb the fortress on foot or by bus.

Please close the metal gate of the forestry administration behind you to prevent game crossing the main road.
