The Bastei viewpoint is one of the most famous and impressive natural wonders of the Saxon Switzerland. It offers a breathtaking panoramic view over the Elbe valley and the bizarre rock formations of Saxon Switzerland. From the viewing platform, you can see the majestic rocks and the gently winding rivers meandering through the landscape. This short route includes some of the spectacular views.

We follow the wide road we came on, heading towards the Bastei Hotel and Bastei.
After passing the dining and souvenir area, you first reach the panorama platform on the right.
If you follow the stairs down, by following the signs to the left, you arrive at the Ferdinandaussicht. Here a wonderful view opens up of the Bastei Bridge in its full size. Afterwards, you can walk across the Bastei Bridge. Walking towards the Neurathen rock castle (as of 05/2025: closed), a path branches off to the right just before the steps down, which leads us to the Kanapee viewpoint. Here, there is another great view of the Elbe valley.
To return to the starting point, the same path must be taken.
Please note: in the core zone of the Saxon Switzerland National Park only marked trails may be used.
Sturdy footwear is recommended.
