The Bastei viewpoint is one of the most famous and impressive natural wonders of Saxon Switzerland. It offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the Elbe Valley and the bizarre rock formations of Saxon Switzerland. From the viewing platform, you can see the majestic cliffs and the gently winding rivers that meander through the landscape. This short tour includes some of the spectacular views.

We follow the wide road we came on towards the Basteihotel and the Bastei.
After passing the restaurant and souvenir area, you first reach the panorama platform on the right.
If you follow the steps down, you will reach the Ferdinandaussicht (Ferdinand View) by following the signs to the left, which offers a wonderful view of the Bastei Bridge in its full size. You can then walk across the Bastei Bridge. Walking in the direction of Neurathen Castle (as of 05/2025: closed), a path branches off to the right - just before the steps downhill - which leads us to the Kanapee view. Here you have another great view of the Elbe valley.
Take the same route back to the starting point.
Please note: in the Saxon Switzerland National Park, only marked trails may be used in the core zone.
Sturdy shoes are recommended.
Autobahn A17, exit Pirna, continue to Lohmen
