Around Stolpen

The tour starts at Stolpen station, which is on the Pirna-Dürrröhrsdorf-Neustadt-Sebnitz railroad line. From here, follow Bahnhofstraße to Stolpen until you reach Pirnaer Landstraße. Turn right there and after approx. 50 m turn right again into Dresdner Straße. From here you reach the old town of Stolpen. If you have some time, it is a good idea to park your bike and explore Stolpen Castle. The church with its Herbrig organ is also worth a visit.

Back at the starting point, cycle downhill along Pirnaer Landstraße and after approx. 250 m turn right into the "Siedlung". Shortly afterwards, you cross the Altstädter Weg, into which you turn left. Follow this path, which is called Obere Straße after crossing Badstraße, for approx. 800 m. You pass the Sankt Lorenz church and at the end of the road you come back to Pirnaer Landstraße. Follow this road to the right and then turn right again approx. 50 m further on. Cross a beautiful old bridge over the Wesenitz to reach Bischofsweg, which you follow for a while before turning right onto Helmsdorfer Straße at the next junction.

From there, the route leads to Rennersdorf-Neudörfel and further into the Wesenitz valley, but you need to concentrate fully for the short passage on the S 159 state road. Follow the circular route, marked with a red dot, to the Buschmühle mill, which was formerly used as a grist and board mill. You now leave the Wesenitztal valley with a climb until you reach the rest area on Röthensdorfer Weg.

From there, turn left and reach Lauterbach. After passing through the village, turn right towards Langenwolmsdorf at the municipal pond and the path leads past some wind turbines. Shortly afterwards, you reach Langenwolmsdorf - a typical forest village with houses and farms strung together like pearls on a necklace. A stop at the Handwerkerhaus is a good place to stop for refreshments and to be impressed by the handicrafts.

The cycle path continues down the valley to the S 159 state road, where you turn left towards Neustadt and take the next junction to Heeselicht. After 2.4 km, you reach a crossroads where you turn right onto the Stolpen circular cycle path. After a steep and winding descent over the "Viebigt", you reach the lower village of Langenwolmsdorf and the main road. Follow this road to the left for approx. 1 km until you reach Bahnhofstraße again. There you turn left back to Stolpen station.
