Rathmannsdorf
From the Elbe Valley to the Panorama Tower
Centrally and idyllically located, Rathmannsdorf and its districts await their guests.
Rathmannsdorf, along with the district of Wendischfähre, is located in the natural region of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains on the right bank of the Elbe and borders the Saxon Switzerland National Park. A part of the town lies in the valley of the Elbe, the Lachsbach, and the Sebnitzbach. From here, there are good transport connections by train and bus. Another special feature is the stop of the Saxon-Bohemian Switzerland National Park Railway in the Wendischfähre district. From there, connections are available to Bad Schandau, Sebnitz, and further to Bautzen. The Elbe Cycle Route also runs through Wendischfähre. It leads upstream via Bad Schandau to Prague and downstream via Königstein to Rathen, Dresden, and Meißen.
The other part of Rathmannsdorf is situated on a plateau, about 140 meters above the Elbe. The newly built "barrier-free" observation tower offers an unforgettable panoramic view of almost all the well-known rock massifs of Saxon Switzerland. Next to the tower, a water treading basin and an arm bathing basin provide soothing refreshment after long hiking tours. The hiking trails in the town are well marked and signposted. Several covered rest areas and well-kept playgrounds invite you to linger.
