Dürrröhrsdorf-Dittersbach
Where romance resides
Once the castle in Dittersbach attracted German romantics, today the municipality of Dürrröhrsdorf-Dittersbach, located in close proximity to Dresden, is especially popular among hikers. The municipality of Dürrröhrsdorf-Dittersbach boasts a particularly favorable location due to its proximity to the state capital Dresden and the Saxon Switzerland National Park. The municipality benefits from a very good public transport connection. A long-distance cycle path connects the town with Dresden.
A network of well-developed hiking trails along the Wesenitz and around the Breiten Stein, the Schöne Höhe, or from the romantic Lieblingstal to the Belvedere invites hikers and art enthusiasts alike.
There is plenty to discover. The Dittersbach Castle, built in the 16th century, was once a meeting place for German romantics in the early 19th century. The then-owner, art historian, and patron Johann Gottlob von Quandt, had a lasting influence on the surroundings of Dittersbach by establishing Germany's first Goethe memorial site—the Belvedere—on the Schöne Höhe and designing the castle park in a romantic style. Quandt, Goethe, Silbermann, Rietschel, Richter, and Semper have left their marks in Dittersbach and its surroundings.
There is also no shortage of events in the town. Since 1668, the well-known Dittersbach Fair has been held annually in the last week of August. The annual park singing, concerts by the singing association, church choir, or brass choir delight numerous visitors every year. The "Hofmannsche Gut" artist house in Dittersbach invites guests to exhibitions and concerts, as does the Belvedere Schöne Höhe.
