Malerweg Chapel

Short facts

Silent memorial on the Malerweg

The Malerweg Chapel in Thürmsdorf is a small, listed building directly on the Malerweg trail in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains in the municipality of Struppen near Thürmsdorf. It was created from the former Biedermann mausoleum, which was built in 1920/21 as a burial place for the von Biedermann family and was consecrated as a chapel in 2016 after extensive renovation. The chapel is open to the public and is part of the seventh stage of the famous Malerweg, the 116-kilometre hiking trail through Saxon Switzerland that connects numerous places of scenic and cultural significance. From near the chapel, there is a charming view of the Elbe valley and Königstein Fortress, which inspired painters such as Johann Alexander Thiele as early as the 18th century.
